Where to find picture perfect backdrops across Europe
Have you ever gone to a place that takes your breath away, but you can’t get a photograph that captures its beauty? We know the struggle. Summer is the most popular season to visit Europe and recently, we outlined some suggestions for this type of trip. Now that you’ve got the insider info on what to pack, here are some tips on where to go to get the perfect Instagram.
Paris - Trocadero
Usually people go right up to the Eiffel Tower - and we don’t blame you, it’s so magnificent. But the photos from right underneath never turn out the way you want them to - whoever is taking the photo has to crouch low just to get the Tower in the shot and it’s not the most flattering angle. Instead, cross the street and walk up the steps to Trocadero, which looks out over the iconic monument. The height of the lookout gives you the perfect angle to capture both you and the incredible view.
Florence - Piazzale Michelangelo
High above the cobblestone streets of Italy sits Piazzale Michelangelo. It overlooks the Arno River, Ponte Vecchio and the Duomo, which juts out into the skyline, making it the perfect backdrop for a photo. Tourists and locals alike come here to watch the sun set over the Tuscan hills each night. So snap your photos, take a seat and don’t forget a bottle of wine or Limoncello.
Dubrovnik - Walls of Dubrovnik
The Walls of Dubrovnik encompass the entirety of Old Town. What used to be the walls of an old fortress, the walls tower over the rest of the city center, giving you a vantage point of both the inside of Old Town and the sparkling Adriatic Sea. There are many photo ops while exploring the length of the walls, including a petite bar that sticks out over the sea.
Venice - Inside of a Gondola
What better way to capture the waterways of the sinking city than to be at sea level yourself? A photo from this vantage point gives you all things that are classic Venice as a backdrop: the stern of the gondola, the water and the colorful buildings on that surround the canals.
Valletta - Grand Harbour
The isolated island of Malta is definitely an overlooked destination. But once you land on this small island in the Mediterranean, you will find yourself surrounded by breathtaking scenery and architecture. To capture both of these, head over to the Grand Harbour, where you will overlook ancient fortresses and the glistening waters of the harbour.
