We believe that every season is the perfect season for a family photoshoot!

Right now, we happen to find ourselves enjoying the last days of summer, with the beauty and celebrations of both fall and winter just around the corner. These particular months bring families together like no other, making memories they’ll want to remember and cherish throughout the year. So we’ve put together a list of ideas for family photoshoots for these special seasons!

Think about the events, celebrations, plans, and gatherings you have coming up. Then imagine how you might capture your family in fun, forever photographs. We’re ready to help and can’t wait to see your family smiling over the coming months as our professional photographers capture your experiences and love!

Photo ideas for the end of summer ☀️

Don’t let the last days of summer slip by without a few more backyard barbecues, time in the sunshine, and maybe even one last getaway. And be sure to capture it in photographs! When you’re back to school, hard at work, and tucked in during the dark nights of winter, you’ll be glad to see photographs of your summer adventures.

Beach day!

The beach is always an epic setting for photoshoots. Capture the sunset, the family playing in the water, the kids running in the sand, and building castles. Our photographers will have lots of fun ideas for family portraits at the beach. So grab your flip-flops, sunglasses, and the family, and head back out for at least one more summer photoshoot!

Camping trip

Summer camping trips are the stuff of childhood memories. Sleeping and living outdoors help us reconnect with nature and ourselves. It’s also a wonderful way to spend time with family. A campsite or nature photoshoot can be a fun way to capture family memories…around the campfire, beside the lake, even piled in the tent!

Have a picnic

The great thing about summer picnics is that they can take place anywhere: your local city park, a park at your vacation destination, even your very own backyard. The other great thing about summer picnics? They’re an easy, hassle-free setting for fun summer photos of your family of four, five, or more!  They’re also the perfect way to bring the pup along for pet portraits.

Book a vacation photoshoot

There’s always time for one more summer vacation, right? Take advantage of the final days before school starts for a road trip for those end-of-summer airfare sales. While you’re on your vacation, book a summer vacation photoshoot. Our local photographers around the world will capture your family memories to cherish long into the fall and winter months.

Fairs and carnivals

Summer fairs and carnivals provide fun photoshoot backdrops and inspiration for picture-perfect poses and outfits. Dress the entire family in denim, capture everyone on the carousel, get pictures of the kids eating cotton candy or throwing darts at balloons. Enjoy these seasonal activities with a family photoshoot sure to make everyone feel like a kid!

Wildflowers and lavender fields

Summer bursts with flowers of all kinds, and they can make the most beautiful summer setting for family photoshoots. Include the family dog and capture the whole troop running, holding hands, and lying in flowers. Our photographers will help you pick outfits that pop or complement whichever flowers you're immersed in. Put flowers in your hair and savor the season!

Hot August nights

Inspired by the name of a classic car show that takes place every August where I live, these last days of the season are perfect for a retro photoshoot. It might feature candy-colored classic cars, bottles of soda with striped straws, long summer dresses and ripped jeans, skateboards, and roller skates. Get creative and fun and get some iconic summer portraits!

Photoshoot ideas for the coming season…fall 🍂

Fall is about to start, and we’re already dreaming of leaf peeping and pumpkin patches. Kids are in new school clothes while the rest of us dig out favorite sweaters and boots. Those places that are hot or humid during summer will start to cool and change color before our eyes. This season is a time for bounty, family, and festivities, including fun fall photoshoots

Go apple picking

Who doesn’t start to crave warm apple pie with the arrival of fall? Even if you don’t crave the baked version, apples are arguably one of the flavors of fall. So why not take the family to go apple picking? Together you’ll feel the spirit of the season and have a fun, unique photoshoot with the family. A perfect setting for pet portraits of the beloved dog members of the family!

Costume time!

One of the highlights of fall for many children is Halloween, when they get to dress up as their favorite characters, creatures, and superheroes. For a brief time, there is magic and possibility in the air, along with sparkling jack-o-lanterns, marigold flowers, and endless treats. Halloween photoshoots can be fun for the whole family and yield unique family portraits.

Pumpkin patch

It’s not just Charlie Brown characters who go in search of the Great Pumpkin! Many families set out for a day together at the local pumpkin patch. If yours does, bring along one of our photographers to capture beautiful, seasonal photos. This can be the perfect setting for newborn photos and family photoshoots with toddlers in cute fall outfits!

Take a hike

As the leaves change colors and the weather cools, fall becomes the ideal season for hiking. And a hike can be a great opportunity for a family photoshoot. Get the family outdoors (maybe to a National Park!). Our photographers will help with ideas like outfit colors that complement the season. Then take us to your favorite places in nature for stunning outdoor photoshoots.

Cozy at home

Pull out your coziest sweaters and blankets. Build a fire, make some cocoa, start a puzzle or surround yourselves with books. What does your family look like at home in the fall? Capture this picture forever. Home is a great setting for photoshoots with pets (especially those kitties!) and newborns. Our professional photographers will work with you in the comfort of your house!

Barns

Barns seem to evoke the spirit of fall with their colors, textures, and rustic architecture. Your photographer will have lots of ideas for poses and outfits to make the most of this simple, iconic fall setting. If you’re a family of four, five, or more looking for a creative photoshoot, a barn has room for everyone. You’ll end up with pictures worthy of your Christmas cards!

Harvest fairs

The harvest fair immerses us in the colors, flavors, and festivities of fall. There is a bounty of produce and old-fashioned games to enjoy, a corn maze to explore, and lots of fresh air. The corn stalks, hay bales, and wine barrels can be perfect fall backdrops for your family photoshoot. Our photographers do pose photos and fun, candid photos as you enjoy the day.

Bring some props into your session

Hopefully, reading through this list of fall photoshoot ideas has shown you that there is not only a bounty of the harvest in fall but a bounty of props readily available for your festive photos. Use the creativity of the season and your interests to inspire your own unique props, from baseball bats to wicker baskets and cups of cider to caramel apples. Our photographers have more ideas too!

Photoshoot ideas for winter & the holidays ❄️

Winter and the holidays that come with it in the Northern Hemisphere are fast approaching! It’s never too late to start dreaming about these magical times…and preparing. There are plans to make for events, gatherings, winter vacations, Christmas cards, and more. Each and every one of these winter occasions deserves its own winter or holiday photoshoot! Which will you book?

Snow days

For some of us, our cities and backyards will soon be transformed by blankets of white snow. Others of us will travel in search of these sparkling landscapes. If winter is synonymous with a white wonderland for your family, capture its beauty with a special winter photoshoot that showcases your family playing, laughing, and enjoying this gift of the season.

Holiday parties

It doesn’t take long for the calendar to fill up in the winter, whether with glittering galas, holiday gatherings, Friendsgiving, or just casual get-togethers. Often these occasions reunite friends and family who don’t see each other as much as they’d like throughout the year. Make the most of these gatherings with a holiday photoshoot that lets us remember every moment.

Cooking together as a family

Winter is a time we tend to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, cooking up comfort foods, family recipes, and holiday feasts. And the warm kitchen can be a great setting for a family photoshoot. Since it’s set in the comfort of your home, these photoshoots are perfect for newborns, toddlers, pets, and the whole family. You might even start a new tradition!

City lights

Cities glitter anew in the winter, dressed up in street lights and holiday trimmings. They become magical destinations as we meet up with friends, visit Christmas markets, or go ice skating. Let the city be a sparkling backdrop to your winter or holiday photoshoot with your family. Dress the family up to sparkle too, and our photographers will capture candid and posed photos.

Christmas card planning

It’s never too early to start preparing for your holiday cards. With our photographers, i t doesn’t have to be a chore but can become a fun, family activity to capture that perfect pic to share on your cards. If you have family pets, consider a photoshoot at home, so they’re included! Wrap yourselves up in Christmas lights, wear ugly sweaters together, or gather on the porch.

Holiday portraits with the whole family

Even if you’re not set on getting the perfect pic for your cards, holiday portraits with the whole family are gifts that will give back for years to come. Remember all those family gatherings we mentioned above? Book one of our professional photographers to be on hand to capture all the love in one place! They’ll help with poses and outfits that guarantee beautiful holiday portraits

Winter outings

Finally, Winter lets us see familiar landscapes in a new way. While we might want to hunker down inside, it’s important to get out into that winter wonderland and explore. See what the ocean looks like or what’s happening downtown. And visit seasonal spots at this time of year, like Christmas tree farms and ski lodges. Then mark it all with a winter photoshoot!
