Father's Day with our Creative Director & cofounder, Camilo Rojas

This Father’s Day our very own Creative Designer & cofounder, Camilo Rojas, celebrates his most beloved and unique creation yet...his son, Draco.

As a conceptual artist and textual poet, Camilo is a man brimming with inspiring words, projecting hopeful vision and creating cutting-edge art. On his first Father’s Day ever we find him surrounded by his family and creations, and he shares with us what it means to count fatherhood amongst his many passions, the important role photography holds in his growing family, and how he will celebrate this special day.

What does it mean to you to be a father?

To me, it is an incredible opportunity. Being a father is a very important role, an honor, a great opportunity to continue being a kid with many stories to tell.

It has been a beautiful experience from the moment we first realized that a lovely human was joining us on this life journey, through each phase of my wife’s pregnancy to the moment we welcomed Draco to this world.

What's it like being both a father and an entrepreneur?

I treat them both with the same amount of passion. They both require presence, the ability to problem-solve, leadership, resilience, hard work, integrity, intuition, and humanity. Both roles have taught me so much about failure and commitment.

Do you consider that photography is important for a father? Why?

I've been documenting life since I first owned a camera. I was probably 19 years “young.” People often asked me why I was always taking photos, and the reason was because, to me, photographs served as a portal for creativity; a way to capture the essence of the moment, of the people around me, and a trigger for that specific memory in time.

The other day I was looking for pictures of me as a newborn or as a kid and, to my surprise, I didn't find many. I have probably ten photos total of me from age 4 to 9, and not a single one of me as a newborn. I don't have a recorded physical or visual memory of my childhood. We didn't have sufficient monetary funds for it. Now that I'm a father, my mission is to record and capture our life as it unfolds, in an artistic and spontaneous form by using my phone and my favorite analog instant camera: a Polaroid 600 Impulse. I want to create a physical, tangible photographic record of Draco’s life journey. I’m sure it will be a treasure, especially as we are now transitioning to a digital world.

How will you celebrate your first Father's day?

I’m privileged to say that I get to celebrate being a father every day!

My son Draco is an incredible human being, and experiencing his smile when I wake up is one of the greatest gifts and blessings I could have asked for. That is the perfect celebration for me!
