Spring getaways for couples
Spring stirs up romantic sentiments, as the birds and bees flit through to the flowers and trees. So it’s a perfect time to take yourself and your loved one away to a place where you can bare your skin to the sunshine, open up the senses, and let the rest of the world fade away.
Miami
Miami’s latin culture, beaches, nightlife and art scene will turn the heat of your romance up about 100 degrees and leave it on simmer until you’re ready to cool off in its turquoise waters. The tropical city is a popular destination for Spring Break, but also a huge metropolis filled with many amazing neighborhoods, lush parks, and inspiring museums. Soak up the energy of the city as you dance and dine on Calle Ocho, stroll Ocean Drive, and lie on South Beach, then retreat to your own luxury hotel, hidden rooftop bar, and private infinity pool.
Cartagena
Here is the sundrenched, romantic Caribbean destination that spring daydreams are made of. Though Cartagena has become more and more popular for spring break, you still won’t find the same crowds as other tropical hot spots. Instead the two of you can explore the 16th century fort and colonial churches, stroll cobblestone streets and alleyways, or lie on white sandy beaches, all in relative peace! The warm waters offer all sorts of diversions, from snorkeling to kayaking. During the day, sail out to Tierra Bomba Island to visit with fisherman and artisans, or indulge in mud baths at nearby Volcan Del Totumo volcano. At night, enjoy amazing seafood and street food, then check out the bars and clubs in neighborhoods like El Centro and Getsemani.
Marrakesh
Lose yourselves in a kaleidoscope of colors and spices, street performers and food vendors, as this ancient walled city becomes all your own. Spring in Marrakesh is not only the perfect time to avoid crowds and enjoy more temperate weather, but you will feel like you’ve gone back in time as you stroll the maze of alleyways, interact with locals, and sip mint tea in the afternoon. Indulge in a private couples massage as your luxury riad or have one of our Marrakesh photographers capture your spring love against a backdrop of Edenic gardens and grand palaces.
Spring breaks for families
Thank goodness for Spring Break. It comes right at the perfect time, between the winter holidays and summer vacation, allowing families time out from their regular schedules to reconnect and have some fun together. There are so many great places to travel with children, and more and more studies show that experiences are far better for children than material gifts. While we’re not opposed to a great trip to a Disney theme park, here are some ideas that will broaden your children’s horizons and include fun for everyone in the family.
The Bahamas
The Caribbean isn’t just for treasure hunters, honeymooners, and college kids. It offers something for everyone, including families with children of all ages. The Bahamas, with sixteen unique islands, waterslides, old forts, and the Nassau Pirate’s Museum are especially perfect. Kids will love learning and participating in water sports, experiencing tropical nature and wildlife in the national park, and exploring each of the three old forts. And while they’re building the ultimate sandcastles, parents can sip adult beverages with colorful umbrellas, read that bestseller they’ve been carrying around forever, and steal a kiss now and then under the swaying palm trees.
Peru
For families who want to really get off the beaten path, Peru offers the ultimate spring break vacation. The country is home to a number of national parks and wildlife refuges. Enjoy hiking, water rafting, ziplining, then explore the amazing Incan ruins, like those found at Pisac and Machu Picchu and which welcome children of all ages. In the bustling capital of Lima, adults can indulge in amazing Peruvian cuisine and colonial architecture, while the kids will enjoy the chocolate museum, dancing fountains, and views from the top of a double-decker bus. Peru is the perfect destination to book one of our local photographers and capture the memories of a family adventure of a lifetime.
Spring adventures for the solo traveler
I don’t know about you, but every spring a fire is lit in me to transform, to seize the new season, and to get out there and grow like the world around me is doing before my very eyes. And I personally love solo traveling during this season because I can focus all my energy and intentions on what sparks that fire, from cuisine to culture to nature. If you feel the same, or just need to set out on your own, here are three outstanding solo spring destinations.
Madrid
The capital of Spain is a wonderful place to soak up sunshine and spontaneity on a solo trip in spring. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a coffee and your journal on one of the city’s grand boulevards, or eat your way through tapas at one of the many food markets, or wander to your heart’s content through one or all of the amazing museums, Madrid is a city that will let you tune into your inner voice and then heed its every whim. And Madrid will match your spontaneity in spring with gentle showers, blooming flowers and makeshift chiringuito bars and terrazas (pavement cafes).
New York
For a true feeling of liberation and self-empowerment that comes with solo travel, New York is the right choice and not as daunting as you might think. Rent a bike, hop on the subway, or make the most of those famous yellow cabs to get you from the views of Rockefeller Square to green spaces and sights of Central Park to the peaceful setting of New York’s Public Library. New York is also perfect for solo diners, where you can grab a hot dog on a street corner or really settle into one of the many distinct neighborhoods from Manhattan to Brooklyn.
Singapore
Get present with yourself in one of the safest, cleanest, and greenest cities in the world. You could spend days admiring the beauty of its parks, like Gardens by the Bay or MacRitchie Reservoir Park, or wandering its temples such as Sri Mariamman Temple or Thian Hock Keng Temple, or eating your way through Little India and Chinatown. If your happy place is solo shopping, you can browse and deliberate to your heart’s content in a variety of shopping experiences, from the hipster Haji Lane to the megamall of VivoCity. Whatever helps you fuel the inner fire of inspiration and transformation, Singapore has it in spades.
