As we continue to savor these summer months and explore all the wonderful opportunities the season provides for photoshoots, this week we turn our attention to all things wedding-related!

Because the sun doesn’t just warm our skin. It inflames the heart and emboldens the spirit! Which means that summer is as ripe with proposals, elopements, and honeymoons, as it is with watermelons, strawberries, and peaches! And each of these radiant expressions of love should be properly documented and treasured for years to come.

So let’s take a wander through the summer wedding season and see how each marvelous event deserves its very own photoshoot!

Surprise proposals

A surprise proposal is both exciting and daunting! And as you contemplate getting down on one knee we want to be there to support you and capture the wonderful moment that the love of your life says “Yes!”

With summer’s glorious weather and beautiful backdrops, there aren’t many places that are off-limits for this intimate occasion. The question might be popped after a hike up a mountain, in the middle of a city park, or dusk at a sidewalk cafe. (Sunrise and sunset do offer magical lighting for this magical moment!) What’s most important is that it’s the right spot for both of you!

Summer wraps lovers in the balmy air and gives our photographer waiting in the wings, all the right light, and shadows. So as you get ready to declare your love and ask the big question, rest assured it can be done in the perfect summer setting and no expression will be missed.

Engagement photos

After the proposal, it’s time to tell the world you’re engaged! This is often done with an engagement photo session yielding touching pics that are sent out as announcements and Save-the-Date notices that are cherished by friends and family.

Again, summer offers up its unique palette of colors and lush locations for your engagement photos. Flowers are blooming, days are long (meaning a later golden hour for spectacularly lit photos), and the outdoors is your photographic wonderland. Again, what’s most important, given the number of choices available, is that the summer backdrop is significant to both of you and lets you shine in all your summer love!

Tip: If you’re planning a local micro wedding we suggest booking the same photographer for your engagement and wedding photos! This will give you a chance to get to know your photographer and be even more confident on the big day.

Bachelorette parties

A bachelorette party is a chance to get together with (traditionally) female friends and family. Once considered a “last hurrah,” today it is another way to revel in the pre-wedding anticipation, spend precious time with the bride-to-be, and share in the excitement of a couple getting ready to make a lifetime commitment.

Bachelorette parties can take all forms and summer is great for each and everyone, whether you (or your maid of honor) plan a night out on the town, a relaxing yoga retreat, a fun camping trip, or the perfect beach getaway. Whatever form your bachelorette party takes, there are no set rules for who you invite or what you do.

As with every celebration, what’s critical to the bachelorette party is that it’s authentic to the person it celebrates and allows for a memorable time together! It’s also important to have forever photos capturing all the laughter, adventures, and love, so get those photoshoots booked!

Elopements and micro weddings

If you’re planning an elopement or micro wedding, summer is the season for you! These types of weddings allow for smaller gatherings in more creative places, and the lovely weather and vacation days of summer encourage couples, with or without a small retinue of family and friends, to seal their love for each other in the most intimate of ways.

Summer encourages elopements to romantic, faraway places and micro weddings held almost anywhere you can imagine: the amusement park where you had your first date, on a sailboat in the bay, or in your favorite museum. If you have guests it is important to keep temperatures in mind and let it spark creativity: keep friends and family cool with boozy popsicles, salads of edible flowers, and ice cream cakes. Party favors can include handheld fans or misters!

No wedding is complete without a photographer who you trust and whose style you love. As you plan your event, wherever it might be in the world, check out our local photographers and chat with them about your photography goals for your special day.

Honeymoon memories

And finally, after all the planning and festivities, comes the honeymoon!

A honeymoon is like a dream vacation where your love takes center stage. Most importantly, it’s when newlyweds can finally take some time to relax and focus on each other after all the festivities. Your honeymoon is your first vacation as a married couple and it deserves special photos to capture it!

Thankfully, wherever you are on the wedding path this season, we have photographers around the world ready to document this amazing journey for years to come.
