Traveling in London during the winter: what to bring
Hi Travelers.
There’s no denying that London’s winter months like to keep things a little nippy. Taking trips abroad and one of life’s greatest pleasures, but dress un-accordingly and risk having a shake in your knees from the freezing breeze! Grab a nice warm cup of tea and check out these items that will surely do their job when the going gets… well COLD ❄️☃️🌬
Winter coat 🧥: The average temperature in winter is between 39 F and 53 F, therefore it’s essential to travel with the right winter coat! We recommend that you choose one that is windproof, comfortable, and—especially—easy to take on and off on the go! Don’t forget to put this at the top of your list!
Thermal Underwear 👙: The key factor in keeping your tush warm during the cold winter weather is to wear thermal/long underwear! Thermal underwear is essentially tights or leggings that go under your pants, that are specially designed to keep you warm. Believe us when we tell you that they will make a huge difference when you do walking tours during the day and night.
Thin layers 🥋: Stick to these like cheese to macaroni! Because the heating systems indoors can get quite warm, it’s better to dress in layers, that way you don’t have to constantly take your sweater off then put it back on. Plus, being able to change outfits quickly is a great way to maximize the variety of pictures your photoshoot- that way you can post pictures from the same shoot on Insta for weeks and no one will notice!
Scarves: This one speaks for itself! Not only are scarves crucial in protecting yourself from catching a cold—especially if the coldest weather you’ve ever experienced is in Miami, Florida—but they also, to keep your neck safe from the icy cold gusts. A brightly colored scarf can be a cute focal point in a picture that draws the viewer’s attention to the wearer’s face- which is exactly what you want when showing everyone your amazing vacay photos!
Gloves 🧤: In chilly London, these will be your best friends! Trust us, without a good pair of warm gloves, your hands will be so cold that you will not be able to feel the tip of your fingers! If you want to quickly share updates about your incredible vacation, be sure to pack touchscreen gloves, that way you can tweet, text, and post while on the go!
Sunglasses 😎: Okay, we know you may think that this is unnecessary, but you will be surprised of how much you will need a good pair of sunglasses! Even though London is cloudy and grey during the cold winter months, the white glare from snow or wet concrete can get VERY bright, potentially hurting your eyes. So, pack your sunglasses like your sight depends on it!
Umbrella ☔️: London is known for its seemingly endless rainy seasons, but this definitely shouldn’t stop you from wandering through the beautiful, historical streets. Luckily, there are many cute umbrellas that can double as adorable photo props! Better be prepared and pack for the rain (and any photoshoots)!
Boots👢: Make sure to underline it twice! Choose wisely when it comes to picking the right boots! Comfort is key when traveling cobblestone streets and the last thing you want while pacing your way up the stairs of the Big Ben Tower are painful blisters on your feet. Also, pack an extra pair of socks incase you accidentally step in a puddle!
Keep these in mind the next time you take a trip into the largest city in the Uk!
